Swine flu: Kenya on high alert
Kenya is on high alert now that the first case of swine flu has been detected. The case happens to be a British student who among others are in the country on a humanitarian mission.
As much as Kenya has tried not to blow the issue out of proportion, I wonder what would have happened if the first case of Swine flu in the UK was a Kenyan who was on a visit to the land? I wonder if Britain would issue travel advisories against Kenya, what would have been the situation?
Though no cause for alarm, the health ministry has repeatedly said that the country is safe. The 33 students are now quarantined in a Kisumu hotel where they have been staying.
Anyway Kenya is not the first country where the flu has been discovered so lets deal with it after all the students were on a good mission and were it not for the flu , the beneficiaries of their good work would be smiling and lacking words to appreciate their deeds.
The world health organization last month donated drugs worth Sh 61 million to the public health ministry to treat swine flu if it struck. The drugs could treat up to 50,000 patients .
